NAMIBIA (information)

stay: 2004/Mar/3..2004/Mar/31

general view **********************************************
Kaokoveld area is said, 'Africa's last great wilderness'. You can watch animals sunrise and sunset time in dry season at NPs. Don't forget that while daytime and rain, most animals are at home.
We Japanese don't need visa.

climate **********************************************
While I had been, there were rain often.

money **********************************************
*$1=N$5.5
*N$1=R1 (fixed exchange rate) You can use Rand (RSA currency) in NAMIBIA. Be careful! In RSA the fixed exchange rate becomes N$1=R0.7. You never forget change your money from N$ to R before leaving for RSA.
ATM are many.

*You can buy US$ cash and sell T/C.

prices **********************************************
petrol; (93)4.03/L, (95)4.05/L remote area becomes more expensive, accommodationl; (camp) about 50 (lowest free or 15), beer; (340ml*6)25, (750ml)6.75, Internet; 10..40/h

food **********************************************
braii (barbeque) is popular among white.
Beer in a supermarket is only small bottle or can. Big bottle is sold in a bottle store. But basically the bottle s tore close earlier than supermarket and in the weekend, they don't sell alcohol.

accommodation **********************************************
They have enough parking space as long as there's no note in the following. But the security is your own responsibility.

Today it's difficult to pitch a tent at a petrol station. Almost all manager (white) reject it. Most accommodation have good parking and security. You can negotiate a long stay discount at most accommodations. Bush camping is easy in Koakoveld and Damaraland area (north-west of NAMIBIA),.But in other areas of this country it's difficult. Because there are fences along the road. I watched some tents pitched in the border parking space. The border is between ANGOLA and NAMIBIA.
